Many industrial machines remain mechanically valuable long after their original automation platform becomes unsupported. A well-engineered retrofit can extend service life while improving maintainability, diagnostics and process capability.

Techsmart starts by understanding the machine sequence, safety interfaces, field devices, communications and production constraints. The objective is not simply to exchange a PLC. The objective is to preserve required machine behaviour while creating a control system that can be maintained and developed in the future.

Legacy systems and undocumented machines

Retrofits are often needed precisely because documentation is incomplete. Where possible, Techsmart can work from available backups, electrical drawings, I/O observations, machine behaviour and operator knowledge to reconstruct the required control logic.

Before implementation, unknowns should be identified explicitly. Safety-related functions require appropriate assessment and must not be inferred casually from production logic.
